HAHNDORF, ADELAIDE HILLS
A brief history of Hahndorf Dog Retreat
Located at 2248 Mount Barker Road, Hahndorf, South Australia, the Hahndorf Dog Retreat, previously known as The Doghouse, has been a trusted dog boarding facility in the Adelaide Hills for over 50 years.
Established in the early 1970s, the kennel currently serves over 2,500 clients, primarily in the Mount Barker District Council and Adelaide Hills Council areas. Situated on 20 picturesque acres just three minutes from Hahndorf’s town centre, the retreat offers a serene environment with large exercise yards for dogs to play and relax.
Originally named The Doghouse, the facility adopted the name Hahndorf Dog Retreat to reflect its modernised services while retaining its historical email address. Although it was initially a family-owned business, it is no longer operated by the original founding family. The kennel has undergone and continues to undergo renovations, and the current co-owner and their family live on-site to provide dedicated care. The retreat continues to offer personalised boarding and daycare services, ensuring dogs receive individual attention in a safe, comfortable setting.
The Hahndorf Dog Retreat remains a premier pet care provider in the region, blending its 50-year legacy with updated practices to cater for the needs of dogs and their owners in the Adelaide Hills.
